Candied Yams tend to be a staple for special occasions such as Thanksgiving. Here's how to make a great candied yam recipe without marshmallows, that's a slightly healthier version of the traditional excessively sweet candied yam recipe. This one is just the right amount of sweetness and full of flavour as it's pan fried.

Directions

1In a large nonstick pot or pan, melt butter till simmering. brown sugar, and stir till melted, being careful not to burn it.

2Add chopped yams and mix till well coated, add salt and spice, and let fry for a five minutes, stirring occasionally. Bring heat down to medium low, cover and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes.

3Plate the candied yams and drizzle some plain yoghurt over top. Enjoy with friends and family.

1/2 Cup of Butter

1 Cup of Brown Sugar

6 Cups of Yams (Scrubbed and Chopped)

1 Teaspoon of Salt

1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
